The article is discussing the box office performance of the movie Avatar: The Way of Water. It has reportedly grossed $19.7 million in its 6th weekend, bringing its domestic total to $597.9 million. It is expected to reach the $600 million milestone in the near future. Overseas, the movie has grossed $1.426 billion, for a worldwide total of $2.024 billion. James Cameron, the director of the movie, is now the only director with 3 movies in the exclusive $2-billion-dollar club. The article also briefly mentions the performance of other movies such as Puss in Boots 2 and M3GAN, as well as the announcement of a sequel to M3GAN.
It finally happened! Avatar: The Way of Water joined the (very) exclusive 2-billion-dollar club!
First, let me break it down:
The movie grossed 19.7 million at its 6th weekend (still No.1!!!), another great drop of 40%, for a domestic total of 597.9 million.
The 600 million milestone will come in a matter of days!
Overseas, the movie already grossed 1.426 billion, for a worldwide total of 2.024 billion! YAY!
James Cameron is now the only director with 3 movies at the 2-billion-dollar club!
What else?
Puss in Boots 2 continues to hold remarkably well, with 11.5 million (a drop of just 21%), for a domestic total of 127 million. Worldwide is around 297 million. Solid.
M3GAN is also strong. The horror thriller earned another 9.1 million (-50%), for a domestic total of 72.6 million and over 124 million worldwide, all that on a 12 million budget!
And just as I thought, they announced a sequel, M3GAN 2.0, for January 2025.
And in fourth place, we have a new movie – Missing. It’s a sequel to the 2018 thriller Searching, and it’s standalone completely!
So, the movie received great reviews from audience and critics, and grossed around 9.3 million. Solid.
In fifth place, A Man Called Otto earned another 9 Million, for a domestic total of 35 million.
Those are the estimates of course, so the numbers can change a little when the actuals will come, but this is it.
How far will Avatar 2 go, I mean, swim???
